Summer Candle Care: How to Make Your Non-Toxic Candle Last All Season
Share
Summer brings its own set of challenges for candle lovers. Heat, humidity, and direct sunlight can all affect how your candle burns, smells, and looks — especially with clean-burning waxes like the soy and coconut blends we use at Enchanted Moon Candle Co. Here's how to keep your candles performing their best all season long.
Keep Candles Out of Direct Sunlight
Natural waxes are more sensitive to heat and UV exposure than paraffin. Direct sunlight can cause your candle to soften, sweat, or develop a frosty white bloom on the surface. Store candles in a cool, shaded spot away from windows until you're ready to burn them.
Watch the Room Temperature
If a room regularly climbs above 75-80°F, wax can soften even when the candle isn't lit, which affects how evenly it burns later. A quick fix: keep candles in the coolest room in the house, or in a closet, until you're ready to light one.
Trim the Wick Before Every Burn
This tip matters year-round, but it's especially important in summer when you might be burning candles more often for outdoor gatherings or to freshen up a space. Trim the wick to 1/8-1/4 inch before each lighting to prevent soot, uneven burning, and a too-large flame.
Let the Wax Pool Fully on First Burn
On the first burn, let the wax melt out to the edges of the container before extinguishing. This prevents tunneling, which becomes even more noticeable when a candle has already softened slightly from summer heat.
Why It's Worth the Extra Care
Our candles are hand-poured with natural soy and coconut wax, free from parabens, phthalates, and lead, because we believe what you burn in your home should be as clean as what you put on your skin. A little extra care in the summer months keeps that experience consistent from the first light to the last.
